Ajmer was found in the seventh century by Dushyant Chauhan. An ancient crowded city with modern developments in outskirts was later merged with the State of Rajasthan. Ajmer is famous for its world-class engineering institution Government Engineering College. Ajmer which also provides opportunity to pursue bachelor and master degree courses in engineering and management is also called as Ajaymeru, the capital which was ruled by Prithviraj Chauhan. The city gives its name to the district of Ajmer, and also to a former territory of British India regime called as Ajmer-Merwara.

Ajmer is a very beautiful city surrounded by hills from all sides. The main place to see are Pushkar, the Dargah, tomb of revered Sufi saint Moinuddin Chishti, the Gharib Nawaz. Pushkar lays around 23 kilomaters from Ajmer and is an important tourist destination. Popular Pushkar Lakes lies in this city which is the main attarction for tourists visiting this place. Situated at the top of Taragarh Hill is the Dargah Shareef of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti which is made of up numerous marble buildings and is built around two courtyards and a massive gate.

Ajmer contains other places like Magazine museum, Mayo collage, The Adhai-din-kawas -jhonpra and Taragarh Fort etc. Adhao-din-jhonpra built on the lower slope of Taragragh Hill was an ancient Jain temple but later it Qutubuddin Aibak turned it into a mosque in 1193. Ajmer is a significant railway junction for broad gauge tracks to Jaipur, Mumbai, Marwar, Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Bangalore. The railway junction has boosted Ajmer as trade hub for manufacturing textile, shoes, hosiery, soap, and pharmaceuticals because of which mainly people are employed. Ajmer is linked by national highways and is connected to international airport in Jaipur.
