Bikaner is located in the northwest part of the state of Rajasthan in western India. The city is the directorial head office of Bikaner region. It was previously the capital of the ancient state of Bikaner. The city was founded by Rao Bikram in 1486 and from its small origins it has developed into the fourth largest city in Rajasthan. Bikaner is famous for farming mustard, cotton, wheat, wool manufacture with the mining of gypsum and bentonite. Bikaner has four sub-divisions which are Kolayat, Nokha, Lunkaransar and Sri Dungargarh. Bikaner is renowned for its "Bikaneri Bhujia" and sweets.
Bikaner is popular for its culture, temples, national parks cities and museum etc. Some of them are Raj Ratan Bihariand Rasik Siromani Temple, Lakshmiminath Temple, Bhandasar Jain Temple, Ganga Golden Jubliee Museum, Rajasthan State Archives, Haviels, Devi Kund Sagar, and Kalibangan. Moolnayakji was the first Viashnav Temple built in Bikaner in 1486. Bikaner is also known for its Usta Art and intricately carved Jharokas. There are many festivals which are celebrated by people such as Teej, camel festival, kapil muni fair, ganguar andkarni mata fair etc. Bikaner is also known for its handicrafts and leather articles, for its palaces and for having Asia's biggest camel farm. Kolayat is a prominent pilgrimage destination with a temple devoted to Kapil Muni.
Bikaner being prominent place for trade is connected to major cities of India by road and railways. Bikaner is also well connected to major cities of India by rail link like Mumbai, Delhi, Guwahati, Jaipur, Surat, Jalandhar, etc. Bakiner has got well furnished military airport at Naal but it lacks a civilian airport. |
