Ranakpur is a village near Sadri town in the Pali district of Rajasthan in western India. It is situated between Jodhpur and Udaipur, in a valley on the side of the Aravalli hills. Ranakpur is a small village where different temples and other tourists’ destination can be observed. It is small in size therefore it won’t take long time to travel this village. In short period of time we can see half world.
Ranakpur is small and very beautiful tourist destination. The architect who oversaw the project is said to have been named Deepaka temple is nominated as one of the 77 wonders in a contest for the new seven wonders of the world. The Ranakpur temple is one of the most famous Jain temples and dedicated to the first Jain Tirthankar it is very big temple made up of white marbles and it is beautiful from outside too. It has more than thousands column none of which are alike. There are two smaller temples built after two other Jain Tirthankar, Neminath and Parsvanath. There is also a minute temple build near the major temple for the Hindu Sun God, Surya. There are nice hotels in Ranakpur for tourists. There is even a stunning carving made out of a single marble rock where there are 108 heads of snakes and numerous tails.
From Jodhpur, take a train to Falna station (250 Rs) and get a taxi to Ranakpur (~350 Rs). Ranakpur is accessible, by car or bus, from Udaipur as well. Ranakpur is small village so rickshaw or taxi can’t be found so you have to take your private car to hire to hotel and to visit around the village. |
