Udaipur is a beautiful city in Rajasthan, India. It is the ancient capital of the previous kingdom of Mewar, and the regional headquarters of Udaipur District. It is also known for its Rajput-era monuments. Udaipur is renowned as the "Venice of the East" and the "Kashmir of Rajasthan”. Many of the palaces have been changed into luxury hotels. Pichhola, incidentally, is home to one of the most romantic hotels of the world, the Lake Palace Hotel. There are three consistent lakes within the town - the Fateh Sagar Lake, the Pichhola Lake and the lesser known Swaroop Sagar Lake.

Jet Airways has a daily flight to Udaipur from both Delhi-Jaipur and Bombay. Indian Airlines also operates flights each day between Udaipur and other main cities like Jaipur and Mumbai, and Air Deccan has three flights a week from Delhi/Jaipur. Udaipur is connected by an efficient bus service with most towns including Jaipur, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Ajmer, Mount Abu, etc. Train service has been better over the last few years after Udaipur was transformed to broad gauge railway line. The daily trains run from New Delhi and Jaipur.
