Mandawa is a town situated in Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan. The City of Mandawa is located at 90 kilometers away from Jaipur city. This is included in the Shekhawati regions. The main attractions of this beautiful place are its forts and havelis.
The Bhojraj Ji Kasubsub clan of Shekhawat Rajputs, in 18th century makes this place a thikana. There are references of founder of the Mandawa village to be Mandu Jat. He established a dhani there. It was a trading outpost for the ancient caravan routes.
The major attraction, the Fort of Mandawa, it was founded in 18th century by Thakur Nawal Singh. The arched gateways of this fort are painted with pictures of Lord Krishna and his cows. The beautiful frescoes, paintings of Lord Krishna, exquisite carvings and amazing mirror work are the attractive features of this fort.
The city of Mandawa is supposed to be an open art gallery, as there are many shekhawati regions havelis are spotted with beautifully adorned walls. Hanuman Prasad Goenka Haveli, Goenka Double Haveli, Murmuria Haveli, Jhunjhunwala Haveli, Mohan Lal Saraf Haveli, Gulab Rai Ladia Haveli, the Binsidhar Newatia Haveli, Lakshminarayan Ladia Haveli and Chokhani Double Haveli are the best spots to visit at Mandawa.
