Taragarh Fort - Rajasthan Travel Guide

The Taragarh Fort in Bundi is the most romantic place in Rajasthan. Erected in 1354 at a distance of approximately 39 km from Kota, Taragarh Fort is set in the scintillating milieu of undulating hills, exotic lakes and crystal clear water reservoirs. This fort was built in the mid-14th century by the Hada Chauhans, out of the sandstone and basalt rocks of the Aravallis.

The main attraction in Bundi is the Taragarh Fort or the Star Fort. The Taragarh Fort was built in 1354 AD. Taragarh Fort is set within the horse-shoe shaped hills, and lakes and water reservoirs, and guarded by the Aravalli hills. The fort straddles on the crest and offers invincible battlements that are very difficult to scale.

Taragarh Fort

There are three entryways to the Taragarh fort: Lakshmi Pol, Phuta Darwaza and Gagudi ki Phatak. Inside the ramparts are huge reservoirs carved out of solid rock. The largest fortification is known as the Bhim Burj, and large cannon called Garbh Gunjam was mounted upon it. This is the second largest collection of cannon in India. The Rani Mahal within the fort is a minuscule palace designed for the wives of the kings. It has many glossy mural paintings and blemished glass windows.
