Umaid Bhawan Palace, located at Jodhpur in Rajasthan, India, is one of the world's largest private residences. Umaid Bhawan Palace was initially called Chittar Palace throughout its construction, because of its location on Chittar Hill, the highest point in Jodhpur. This is known as Umaid Bhawan Palace because of the particular type of sandstone used to build it which is not weathered. The current owner of the Palace is Gaj Singh. Some portion of Umaid Bhawan Palace has changed into hotels and museum. This palace is blend of western and eastern architecture influences .It is also very beautiful palace to see.
A special type of stonework, called Chittar sandstone, has been used in building the palace and this gives it an unusual effect. For this reason, it is also termed as Chittar Palace by the local residents. Its style of building, with attractive balconies, pleasant courtyards, green gardens and large rooms, makes it a fine example of Indo-Saracenic design. The palace now is deluxe palace hotel. The museum of this palace is highly recommended as for its display of weapons, an convoy of stuffed leopards, a huge banners presented by Queen Victoria and an incredible collection of clocks. It makes this palace very beautiful.
Tourists can easily travel Jodhpur without any problem because there are lots of means of transportation. For long distance you can travel by taxi and local bus. You can hire taxi according to presence, comfort and luxury but it is double expensive than local vehicles. Local buses charge low price but they don’t have fix time and are late too. You can travel by auto and cycle rickshaw which you can find anywhere in the city which is cheaper and suitable for short distance. Traveling Rajasthan is very convenient and comfortable feeling. |
