Ranthambore National Park - Rajasthan Travel Guide

Ranthambore National Park is one of the major national parks in northern India. It is located in Sawai Madhopur district of southeastern Rajasthan around 130 km from Jaipur, which is also the adjoining airport. The park lies at the border of a plateau, and is bordered to the north by the Banas River and to the south by the Chambal River. Ranthambore is also the site for one of the biggest Banyan trees in India. The park covers an area of 392 km˛, and is famous for its tiger population, and is one of India's Project Tiger reserves.

Like many other wildlife parks, the Ranthambore National Park is also a stunning version of a previous hunting land of Maharajahs of Rajasthan. It is the home to the world largest collection of Indian native animals. There are six artificial lakes in the park and numerous endless water resources. Ranthambore forest is drying deciduous with dhok trees as the main vegetation, which is an important fodder tree for animals. The typical feature of the park is some areas are open for the tourists to wander in and explore the flora and fauna. Apart from that a large numbers of Sambar, Chital, Nilgai, Gazelle, Boars, Mongoose, Indian Hare, Monitor Lizards and a large number of birds.

The best time to visit the park is in morning and evening. Rides into the jungle in open jeeps are pretty safe as most of them are wild animals. You can visit by horse safari and camel safari too which can feel you very happy and interesting. Wild animals are familiar with human beings.
